Greek Language
The Greek Language Program at Guardian Angel Orthodox Day School focuses on the mastery of all four basic communication skills: listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing. We are working on thematic units and at the end of every unit we assess students’ progress. Our Greek Language Program also includes the study of Greek history, geography, and culture, including our Greek Orthodox faith.
For our Greek Language Program to be more effective this year, we assessed every student at the beginning of the school year. The students are reassessed two more times during the school year. This way, we will track their progress throughout the year and identify areas where students need further guidance/support and adapt our instruction. This year we will also offer our 6th grade students an opportunity to practice and (if they want) to take the test of Ellinomatheia. Ellinomatheia is a worldwide certification exam in Greek Language Proficiency that the Ministry of Education of Greece organizes every year in May. These exams are open to all candidates regardless of ethnic background, who are learning Greek as a second or foreign language. Successful candidates are awarded with an official certificate of proficiency in Greek. Thank you for your support! |
